Google launched Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL along with a bunch of other hardwares on October 4th. The leaked news and images were accurate to dampen the surprise element. In fact, the other accessories unveiled by Google were quite interesting compared to the Pixel. We will be talking about those products in the coming post. Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL focuses more on Google’s software innovation such as machine learning and AI compared to its looks. Hardware manufacturer HTC has tried to give it a pinch of distinctive look which, actually creates a modern looking device and feels premium.
Pixel 2 XL certainly stands out more compared to Pixel 2, but the large 6-inch display may be a deterrent factor for many. Both the devices have the same configuration. It runs on the latest Android Oreo 8.0 and Google has promised updates for next three years. Pixel devices will be available for pre-order from October 26th in India and available in other countries from October 19th. Pixel 2 will start from Rs. 61,000 and Pixel 2 XL from Rs. 73,000. Pixel 2 XL sports a 6 inch P-OLED QHD display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 and have a resolution of 2880 x 1440 at 538ppi. 2 XL has an always on display due to its OLED panel, which means it can lit only those pixels which are required and switch of the rest, it allows you to display notifications and clock, without consuming much power. This feature is available in Samsung Galaxy devices and Moto Z devices for quite some time now. Pixel 2 will be available in three colors, white (clearly white), pale blue (kind of blue) and black (just black). The display in Pixel 2 XL tries to create a somewhat bezel-less look but fails miserably, but the overall build makes up for the same. Its side edges are visible enough to steal away the full display experience.
Pixel 2 does not offer anything new in terms of looks. Pixel 2 XL is available in executive black and a dual color black and white color. Both the phones have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Octa-core chipset with Adreno 540 GPU. 4 GB of DDR4 RAM with an option of 64 GB or 128 GB storage. The rear camera is 12.2 MP with f/1.8 aperture which is bigger than last year and comes with a whole lot of improvement as well. Pixel was already known for its amazing camera quality and Google has taken it to another level. There is no dual camera setup like most of the flagship this year such as iPhone X and OnePlus 5, though looking at its image quality, you will not miss the second camera. It can record 1080p and 4K videos at 30 FPS with optical stabilization for both images and videos. The front camera is an 8 MP shooter with f/2.4 aperture and can capture stunning selfies with bokeh effect in low light as well. The camera is embedded with machine learning and can improve picture quality over time by adjusting itself to user scenarios.

The major change comes in terms of dual stereo front speakers (which is better) and exclusion of 3.5 mm audio jack (not better). Instead, it has a single USB-C port and Pixel will ship with a converter for 3.5 mm audio jack. The google search bar is conveniently placed below the bottom dock and features amazing live wallpapers. Both the phones have an aluminum unibody which is water (IP67) and dust resistant. The fingerprint reader is on the back panel, same as last year.
